Making a Scene

As an online part of the New York Times Sunday Magazine movie issue,  the "actors who gave the year's best performances star in one-line films created by the Oscar-winning cinematographer Janusz Kaminski." These very short films are pretty damn amazing.

New American Poets

In the Poetry Society of America's New American Poets Series, they ask "previous New American Poets to select favorites and write a brief introduction to their work."

You can go here to take a gander at all of the selections over the years. But I am most partial to Orlando White, selected in 2012 by Kazim Ali.

As you can read below, Orlando's work is spare and slyly gorgeous.

SQUARE LIPS

1.

    Open
the book's
     mouth.
Flip through
each     tongue:
     ink breath.

2.

Read.

Eyes with four equal sides

                           are required.

3.

Stop.

             A sentence:

            a dark smile,

            and its letters:

            black teeth.

4.

     But     don't

     smile back.

Or else

              the verb

              and subject

will        eat you.
